Concern Worldwide is an Irish-based non-governmental, international, humanitarian organisation dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries.

Job Title:Data Analyst Reports to: Head, Technical AssistanceJob Location: DublinContract Details:One Year (or until 30^th September, 2016)Pay band: Grade 3: €28,909 to €34,011Job Summary: The Concern Kenya team has been collecting quantitative data on a variety of issues in the urban slums of Nairobi Kenya for the past four years under the Indicator Development for the Surveillance of Urban Emergencies (IDSUE) programme (for more details on the programme see here). This has led to the generation of large amounts of data collected in a rigorous manner at various points in time which require further detailed and comprehensive analysis to identify and examine a variety of relationships within the data as well as good predictors of emergencies in the urban slum context.

In addition to undertaking much of this analysis himself or herself, the incumbent will support other team members in Concern and partner organizations to analyse and interpret the data from their project area. In this respect they will contribute towards the development of partner capacity and help to collate and holistically analyse each round of data collection across all sites. Main Duties &

Responsibilities:Data Analysis

· Analyze data collected by the IDSUE project in order to produce
(i) timely preliminary (univariate and bivariate analysis) and (ii) more in depth reports (multivariate analysis,) using this data

· Analyze geospatial data collected by IDSUE and produce project maps

· Quality assure the automated reports coming from the routine data

· Ensure datasets from all rounds of data collection are available for further analysis by third parties

Report Preparation

· Contribute to the development of presentations, factsheets and policy briefs on results of research for use in country and internationally

· Contribute to scientific papers for publication in peer reviewed journals

· Write reports for quarterly assessments and evaluations.

Training of Partners

· Provide training on basic data management, analysis and storage to partners.

· Build the capacity of identified staff within the FIM (Livelihoods) Programme on analysis and management of data aimed at enriching and directing the urban programme, including informing learning documents. (This could be done during 2 or 3 field trips spread out throughout the year).

Manual Preparation

· Periodically revise analysis section of guidance documents to keep them up to date

Programme Participant Protection Policy4

· To adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct.

Job Specification:

Essential:

· A Masters Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Economics or relevant field

· At least one years’ post-masters experience in research design, management and analysis of large-scale datasets. Experience with analysis of stratified cluster samples and time series data analysis.

· Proficiency in the use of statistical software (SPSS, Stata or R), digital data gathering technologies and computer applications

· Proven competency in statistical analysis and complex survey design and analysis

· Ability to manage many competing demands at the same time in an enthusiastic and solution focused manner.

· Willingness to travel and to spend up to 40% of time in country

Desirable:

· Experience in designing and implementing evaluations and operational research, using both quantitative and qualitative methods

· Experience in early warning/surveillance

· Experience of digital data gathering technology and software

· Experience working in an urban slum environment and working with government partners

· Experience developing articles for publication
