Job Title: Project Accountant – Manager
Contract Duration: 12 months (Maternity Leave Cover)
Overview of the Role:
- Manage global donor audits where coordination between countries is required, including the following:
- Gather initial documentation required from various sources, including liaising with Desk Officers and Operations Accountants
- Coordinate audit plan with auditor and various stakeholders within HQ and Field
- Review (or coordinate review) of all sample documentation before being submitted to auditors to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Perform detailed reviews of all reports and letters produced by auditors. Provide suggested comments to SMT for their review. Coordinate SMT review of key reports and letters
- Review and approve payment of invoices in adherence with previous agreements
- Ensure adherence with GOAL Procurement Policies in relation to audit firms and participate in Procurement Committees as required
- Provide assistance to all teams on audit related issues and queries
- Respond timely to queries raised by field and HQ teams
- Review contentious audit reports and provide guidance as to potential responses and coaching regarding how to liaise with the audit teams
- Lead or participate, as appropriate, in projects around the organisation, including projects effecting HQ, field, or both, to with focus of process improvement and efficiency, with a finance lens (i.e., Dell project to get process mapping; timesheet system implementation; etc). This includes close cross-departmental collaboration
- Prepare the Segregated Account Reconciliation on a weekly basis to assist the Senior Financial Accountant with understanding the availability of segregated funds for business purposes
- Assist with the preparation of the annual statutory financial statements, including detailed review to ensure adherence with rules and requirements and for completeness and accuracy.
- Be a backup for Syria and HQ Finance Procurement and Tender Committees to alleviate load on the relevant colleagues
- Provide support and assistance within the Finance department where deemed relevant and appropriate
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead donor audits from an HQ perspective for key donors to include USAID, DfID, Irish Aid, and ECHO
- Review and derive process improvements for the field finance to include cash-flow forecasting tools, management reporting for field finance teams, budget developments
- Work closely with Senior Management Team and Regional Directors on major applications of budgeting, work plans, and cash flow at field level
- Build, delivery and support the global financial infrastructure to support the organisation growth strategy to include identification of process improvement workflows with specific focus on field finance
- Lead all project initiative across departments both at HQ and field
- Any other duties as may be deemed appropriate
Qualifications and Attributes
Essential
- A qualified accountant
- A minimum of six months experience working as an auditor
- Strong technical financial expertise
- Strong communication skills
- Has successfully managed different projects and work activities at the same time and can demonstrate being able to effectively prioritise between competing demands in a tight time window
