Climate Risk Documentation Officer - Dublin, Ireland

Liaises with: The Livelihoods Programme Support team, other units in the Strategy, Advocacy and Learning Department, Country Offices and the International Programmes and Emergency Directorates.

Job location: Dublin

Pay Band: 1

Contract: 6 month contract – full time (5 days per week). Starting as soon as possible

Job Purpose: To support country programmes to better navigate climate variability and to strengthen decision making to prepare for and respond to the risks presented. The holder of this position will work alongside the relevant advisers to ensure that high quality Country Climate Risk Profiles (CRPs) are developed to support the integration of Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) approaches and techniques in programme geographical areas where vulnerability is driven primarily by climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct desk-based research: complete an initial review of regional and national risk and vulnerability information, primarily focusing on available disaster, climate and weather data.

· Identify and acquire relevant data sources: in consultation with relevant advisers, identify and obtain datasets and other studies that will be needed in order to assess and map the principal hazards, exposure and vulnerability.

· Complete Country CRPs for Concern’s 24 countries of operation: Assess and document the evolution of key current and expected future climate hazards (e.g. drought, flood, pests, etc.), trends and the associated potential climate-related risks/implications. Organise the data in an appropriate and user-friendly format.

· Support the Organisational Climate and Environmental Adviser and DRR Adviser to roll out the CRPs to Concern country programme staff.

· Any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the head of the Technical Assistance team.

Skills and Experience Required:

Essential:

· A masters level degree in development studies, humanitarian action, or similar.

· Strong interest and understanding of current debates and initiatives in disaster risk reduction/management, climate change adaptation and environment discourse.

· Strong understanding of how agriculture, livestock, and natural resource management fits within the wider framework of promoting resilience and positive climate change adaptation, particularly in drought-prone contexts.

· Good analytical skills and a strong understanding of research methodologies.

· An ability to show a level of critical thinking.

· Ability to communicate very clearly and succinctly (writing and speaking).

· Good knowledge and competence of computer applications i.e. Microsoft Office.

Desirable:

· Experience of DRR and/or emergency preparedness and response activities.

· Previous experience working in an NGO environment.

· Previous experience working in a developing country.

· Ability to work in French
