Plan International is a child-centred NGO working in 51 developing countries. With an emphasis on long term sustainable development and emergency response, Plan International assists children and their communities across a range of programmes in areas such as education, child protection, water and sanitation.
Established in 2003, Plan International Ireland is a dynamic organisation that supports Plan International’s work worldwide. Plan International Ireland has over 8,000 regular givers who support our work primarily through child sponsorship. In addition, funding is currently received from a variety of sources primarily the public through various fundraising initiatives, Irish Aid, the EU, corporates, trade unions and trust and foundations.
In addition to its work overseas, Plan International Ireland strives to raise awareness of development issues in Ireland through media relations, key events, advocacy and development education.
The Role
Plan International Ireland is looking for a dynamic person who will grow our programme income. You will help to expand our funding base, with particular attention on institutional donors including Irish Aid and the European Union.
Reporting to the Development Coordinator, you will maximise new business opportunities, including identifying new grant opportunities, supporting proposal development and ensuring strong tracking of our grant portfolio. The position will also support Plan Country Offices (COs) to strengthen their ability to engage donors and writing quality proposals.
You will have a strong track record in securing institutional grants through excellent written skills and strong project management.
Business Development

- Develop and operationalise the resource mobilisation strategy of Plan International Ireland.
- Actively identify grant opportunities in line with agreed organisational procedures and in close coordination with Programme and Finance teams
- Monitor, analyse and consolidate relevant grant information and disseminate where relevant
- Lead on researching where potential opportunities for grants funding can be found
- Produce and regularly update a comprehensive mapping of all relevant donor opportunities (by sector and geography).
Proposal Development

- Lead proposal development for assigned donors/prospects and support cross-organisational teams to respond to funding opportunities
- Collaborate with and travel to COs when needed to work with Plan CO teams to design effective proposals and budgets,
- Ensure all compliance issues are met for donor proposals, ensure timely submission and follow up with donors for feedback and contract negotiations
- Support our public fundraising teams by preparing proposals to co-fund ongoing projects
- Ensure that all categories of programme costs are taken into account at the conceptualisation and submission stage of grant preparation
Donor Relations

- Building successful, proactive relationships which align donor’s priorities with programme needs;
- Ensure successful on-going donor relationship management and ‘ownership’ of relations with donor representatives in Ireland. Other
- Liaise with the Development Co-ordinator to strengthen the capacity of staff in generating resources (technical, funding, material) and reporting on grant-funded programmes and projects.
- Work with the Grants Accountant and Development Co-ordinator to ensure a strong grants monitoring system in terms of projections and forecasting.
Essential Attributes
- Minimum of three years’ experience of securing institutional funding
- Evidence of success in winning large donor grants/contracts
- Experience of managing and prioritising own workload, meeting tight deadlines and working under pressure
- Excellent English written skills, and the ability to creatively turn complex project and/or organisational information into compelling business cases
- Strong numeracy and analytical ability, with ability to understand and design complex budgets
- Ability and willingness to travel when required
