Overview
GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poorest of the poor in the world’s toughest places. GOAL operates in 19 countries around the world including Syria, Philippines, South Sudan and Sierra Leone. GOAL receives funding from a variety of sources including the governments of Ireland, UK, US and from the EU. GOAL is also supported by a number of charitable trusts & foundations in Ireland and worldwide. Institutional funding has been increasing over the last three years which reflects the quality and effectiveness of GOAL’s programmes.
Job Purpose
It is an exciting time for fundraising within GOAL. Our strong team has ambitious targets to double fundraising income by the end of 2017. Direct marketing will have a major part to play in this increase in income. The main purpose of this role is to manage a variety of donor recruitment and development marketing campaigns in order to maintain and grow GOAL’s income from individuals. The Direct Marketing Officer will help roll out our Individuals Giving Communication Plan and feed into a longer term strategy.
The DM Officer will work closely with GOAL’s Fundraising, Communications, Finance and Procurement teams and support colleagues in our Dublin, London and New York offices. This role will work very closely with the IG Manager to reach agreed targets.
Main Duties
Project Management
Help roll out the Individuals Giving Communication Plan taking on specific income generating projects
Manage activity for the recruitment of new and retention of existing GOAL one off and regular givers via various channels – Door to Door, direct mail, telemarketing, online, etc.
Manage third party suppliers (printers, designers etc.) to ensure projects are rolled out on time and within budget
Liaise with Procurement to ensure GOAL processes are followed with regard to quotes, purchasing etc.
Micromanage set budgets for each project
Liaise with Finance to ensure codes and thank you letters are set up and internal briefing documents circulated
Generate results (response rates, average gift, ROI etc.) and an end of campaign review with recommendations to maximize the income of future campaigns
Data Segmentation and Targeting
Become a confident user of GOAL’s CRM system
Work closely with the IG Manager and Data Analyst to target individuals appropriately and manage selections according to campaign
Work with the Data Analyst on the production of data selections
Digital Communications
Become familiar with the software used to distribute donor e-communications
Manage an e-communications’ calendar in line with the IG communication plan working closely with Fundraising and Communications
Report key findings to IG Manager and Head of FR and make regular improvements based on results
Emergency Fundraising
Play a key part in GOAL’s emergency fundraising response as and when necessary
Fuel for Fundraising
Lead on the development of a library of stories and images suitable for direct marketing communications
Work closely with the Communications and Operations teams and develop relationships with GOALies and staff in the countries in which we work
Work with the IG Manager to produce briefs for gathering information and images from GOAL projects
Work closely with GOAL’s Dochas representative and internal guidelines on acquiring and sharing information
Assist in the training of fundraisers in external agencies (telemarketers, D2D etc.) communicating GOAL’s work
Other Duties
Support GOAL’s Donor Care/Donations department keeping them up to speed on IG communications
Provide support to Fundraising and other GOAL offices as required when agreed with your line manager
Carry out any other reasonable tasks within the scope of the role as agreed with your line manager
Act in the best interests of GOAL at all times and in accordance with our mission and vision

Training
Become proficient in GOAL’s CRM system
Keep up to date on developments in direct and digital marketing
Be knowledgeable of Data Protection legislation
Requirements
- Third level qualification is required; a direct marketing qualification is preferred
- Two years of experience in a direct marketing position is essential
- Skills in using CRM systems are required, ideally with Microsoft Dynamics
- International experience within other NGOs or in the development/humanitarian sector is desirable
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English both verbally and in writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel
- High level of attention to detail particularly with regard to proof reading
- Ability to work on own initiative
